Affordable Therapy in Indianapolis

Therapy is an investment in yourself. Therapy for many is a life-changing experience. The effects of therapy are far reaching beyond the the time spent in the 50-minute session. Private pay therapy is often cost-prohibitive, even with sliding scale. To address this, most therapists at Brave Life Therapy have spots in their schedule for reduced fee or pro-bono work but often those spots get filled fast.

At Brave Life Therapy, it's important to us that everyone has access to mental health services. Through our counseling internship program, we are able to make this a reality and offer affordable therapy in Indianapolis. Select pro bono slots available.

Our counseling interns are in their last semesters of graduate school in mental health counseling and are in the process of obtaining their hours for graduation. All our interns at Brave Life Therapy have additional trainings outside of school in areas of LGBTQ+ affirming care, dialectal behavioral therapy (DBT), are trauma-informed and much more. These are full length, 50 minute long sessions and can be scheduled weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.

Each intern offers 2 free sessions then pay what you can between $40-$60 and this funding goes towards their supervision and additional trainings.

Colby Thomas, He/They, Masters Intern

Colby is currently enrolled in the Mental Health Counseling and Counseling Education program at Indiana University Bloomington. He earned a bachelor's in psychology and sociology from Carson-Newman University in Jefferson City, Tennessee. He grew up in Southern Appalachia where therapy is reserved for "rich folk." He hopes to offer services to anyone who is in need, no matter their financial situation. Colby believes that mental health is just as important as physical health, yet it is a privilege that very few are able to obtain. He has been taught that meeting the client where they are is the best course of action when beginning the therapeutic relationship. He plans to meet all of his clients at their own starting points.

Colby hopes to specialize in sex therapy and open his own practice. Colby’s other interests are in couples and marriage counseling, queer identities, anxiety, grief, and trauma.

Colby shares, “in my personal life, I enjoy water sports like wake boarding or water skiing, reading, looking at art (not making it), and card games.”
