Therapy in Indianapolis FAQs

  • You can schedule using our HIPAA compliant health record system- SimplePractice- Click here to schedule! We also offer free consultations please email jessmills@thebravelifetherapy.com

  • There are many benefits of therapy! We offer therapy in Indianapolis and virtually throughout Indiana. Therapists can provide support, problem solving skills and coping strategies for a wide range of issues. Our therapists take an objective approach and can provide a different and fresh perspective on a problem or situation that you have been struggling with. Some benefits can include, boosting self confidence or improving self esteem, improving communication skills, learning/finding new coping skills, attaining a better understanding of yourself, changing old patterns and developing new ones, or managing your emotional feeling such as sadness, anger or other highly charged emotions you or your child might be experiencing.

  • This first session is a 60-75 minute meeting and is a casual style interview with client/parents (if client is a minor) for getting to know basic life history and see if we are a good fit for each other. Therapy works best when you can trust and connect with your therapist.

    During the first session, some questions might be;

    What brought you to therapy?

    What do you feel is difficult in your life?

    What are your symptoms?

    Some questions about your/child’s history, including childhood experiences, education, relationships (family, romantic, friends), your current living situation, and your career.

    We will come to an agreement about the length of your treatment, therapy methods, and ins and outs of patient confidentiality.

  • We do not take insurance. All therapists are considered out of network for all insurances. Master’s level students are all self pay and the card on file will be charged every session for all outstanding service fees.

    We understand that by not taking insurance we can make ourselves inaccessible to some and that is really hard for us- which is why our offices offers Master’s level internship program with reduced therapy rates.

    By not taking insurance, we are also able to spend more time working directly with clients rather than paperwork and billing, which allows us to give you the highest standard of care.

    Lastly, in order to work with insurance, therapist are required to give you a diagnosis, which would become a permanent part of your medical record and could adversely affect your ability to apply for certain benefits (such as disability should you ever need it). We believe that not everyone needs a formal diagnosis; some people just need to talk and explore.

    Diagnostic impressions are still a big part of our work and how we determine an effective treatment plan, but it is not something that defines you or your worth.

    We are able to provide you with a Super Bill, to seek reimbursement on your own if you request this.

  • Our cancellation policy is 48 hours prior to appointment. We do charge a FULL fee for any missed sessions that cannot be billed to your insurance. This is to allow time to fill spots with other individuals who may be waiting.
